It was first published in the United States, however since the book got a high appreciation among the public . This book has been translated into 28 languages now and even been adapted as a made of television movies entitled "Untamed Love".
Both of them, "Sheila : On child" and "Sheila : Tiger's Child" tell us about a girl named Sheila.

Sheila : One Child
Sheila was 4 y.o. when her 18yearsold mother left and took Sheila and her 2yearsold brother, Jimmie. However, on the highway, Sheila's mother opened the door and pushed Sheila out and leaving her behind. Since then, Sheila has lived in poverty with her neglectful and verbally abusive father. Sheila's junkies and drunkard father did not have enough money to get water to wash themselves or the one set of clothes Sheila owned. Thus, she came to school dirty and smelly every day. At the age of 6 Sheila attempted to burn a 3years-old boy.
As there was no place for her at the asyluml, she ended up as a student in Torey's class, where she remains for about five months.
Torey Hayden was a special education teacher, at the beginning of the year, Torey is given a long, narrow, carpeted classroom with a single window at the end – very inconvenient for a special education class. Her teaching assistant is a Mexican migrant worker named Anton who didn't finish high school.
Entering Torey Hayden’s classroom Sheila was dirty, smelly, and looked too small for her age. She refused to talk or cooperate with anyone in the class, including Torey.
After Sheila began participating in class, there were still a few issues. Sheila refuses to do paper work. However, when given other mediums to work with (stacking blocks, for instance), she reveals that she is incredibly smart and talented for someone who only had a few months of first-grade; her IQ. is later tested, and comes to a total of 184, which is, according to Torey, around 1 in 10,000 for a six-year-old. Sheila remains obsessed with showing people that she is worthwhile, and terrified of abandonment.
One day, Sheila comes to school looking pale and nervous. She uses the bathroom twice in the first half-hour. Torey takes Sheila on her lap, and then notices she's bleeding. Sheila eventually confesses that her uncle Jerry had tried to rape her, and when she was too small, he cut her with his knife. Sheila is rushed to the hospital after losing a lot of blood and has to have surgery to repair the damage. In ,The Tiger's Child, it is revealed that because of this incident, Sheila is infertile. Sheila deals with the traumatic experience remarkably well, though she refuses to wear dresses for a while afterward.
At the end of the year, Torey introduces Sheila to next year's teacher. Sheila will be going into third grade, because Torey feels she can deal with the harder material and that it's more important at this point that Sheila's teacher be loving and understanding. Torey decided to move to study at outskirt university. This fact ( that Torey will leave her is hard to be received since she felt that Torey was the only one who really can undertand her)![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | |

Sheila : Tiger's Child

Hayden did not see Sheila again until she was 13. As Hayden continues to renewe her realtionship with the teenage Sheila, the memories slowly comeback, bringing with them feelings of abandonment and hostility.
Sheila is now in her thirties. She has moved from fast food into restaurant business and seems to have a quite an astute business mind. She remains single and shares her home with two dogs and two cats. This is a poem written by Sheila
All the rest came
They tried to make me laugh
They played their games with me
Some games for fun and some for keeps
And then they went away
Leaving me in the ruins of games
Not knowing which were for keeps and
Which were for fun and
Leaving me alone with the echos of
Laughter that was not mine
Then you came
With your funny way of being
Not quite human
And you made me cry
And you didn't seem to care that I did
You just said the games are over
And waited
Until all my tears were turned into
Joy.
